What?! The US abruptly dismisses its Secretary of the Navy amidst a potential war and the blockade of Iranian ports.

U.S. Navy Secretary John Pheland has been fired, Reuters reported, citing sources close to the matter on Wednesday (April 22), in the latest move to overhaul the Pentagon amid the ongoing war and blockade of Iranian ports. What?! The US abruptly dismisses its Secretary of the Navy amidst a potential war and the blockade of Iranian ports.

The U.S. Department of Defense stated in a press release, "Pheland is leaving the administration, effective immediately," without providing further details. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell added, "On behalf of the Secretary of War and the Deputy Secretary of War, we thank Secretary Pheland for his service to the U.S. Navy and the Navy. We wish him the best of luck in the future."

Parnell further stated that Hong Chao, Deputy Minister of the Navy, would serve as acting Minister of the Navy.

Previously, on April 2, Hexes dismissed General Randy George from his position as Chief of Staff of the Army without giving any reason. Two U.S. officials revealed that the decision was related to the tense situation between Hexes and Daniel Driscoll, the Secretary of the Army.

The April dismissals added to the turmoil caused by recent major changes at every level of the Defense Department's administration. These included the dismissal of the former Chief of Staff last year, as well as C.Q. Brown, the former Air Force Chief and Chief of Staff, along with the Navy's Operations Command and the Deputy Chief of Air Force. This latest

round of abrupt dismissals comes amid a tense ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran, and as America is increasingly deploying its Navy assets to the Middle East.

The U.S. military is currently relying on these Navy assets for its blockade of Iranian ports, which President Donald Trump hopes will put pressure on Tehran to compromise on his terms for a ceasefire.
