The Marine Department is ensuring the safety of the public during Songkran 2026 with strict water safety measures nationwide
On April 13, 2026, the Waterway Safety Center of the Marine Department reported on the safety and facilitation of waterway travel during the Songkran holiday period. Strict measures were implemented nationwide. In the Chao Phraya River area, security was monitored via CCTV cameras covering various piers, including the Saen Saep Canal. Personnel were stationed at piers to assist and provide information on boat routes to the public. Furthermore, boat operators were instructed to navigate cautiously and adhere to speed regulations.
For regions 1–7, service points have been established and staff have been deployed to assist tourists at various piers. Operators and boat captains are reminded to check the readiness of the vessel, pier, crew, and life-saving equipment before each voyage. They are prohibited from consuming alcohol or drugs while operating a boat. Boat captains must undergo alcohol and drug screening before each departure, in accordance with established safety measures. Furthermore, they are urged to closely monitor announcements from the Marine Department and weather conditions from the Meteorological Department.
As of April 12, 2026, nationwide water transport statistics show 5,401 ferry trips and a total of 279,317 passengers. The Marine Department has instructed its central and regional officers to work at full capacity due to the large number of people and tourists traveling, in order to prevent water accidents. If you witness any unsafe water incidents, you can report them to the Marine Department hotline at 1199, available 24 hours a day.
