Schedule of Songkran Festival (Wan Lai) in Chonburi, Pattaya, and Bang Saen, 2026: Where will it be held and what activities will take place?
Who says the Songkran fun has to end on April 15th, 2026? For partygoers with a life of adventure who don't want to move on from the wet and wild, get ready because the Eastern region is about to open the stage for legendary fun with the "Wan Lai" tradition, ready to serve up double the fun, stretching all the way until April 20th, 2026!
Did you know that "Wan Lai" isn't just about splashing water? Before you head out into the water, let's learn a little about its origins. In the past, this tradition was called "the tradition of building sand pagodas on flowing water," a New Year's merit-making day where villagers would help carry sand that had been washed down by the water into the river or sea back to the temple to build sand pagodas as a Buddhist offering. But as times changed and transportation shifted from boats to cars, the long name was shortened to simply "Wan Lai." Even with the shorter name, the spirit of fun, merit-making, and water splashing that attracts hundreds of thousands of people to the event remains just as vibrant.
